Are We Alone: Current Efforts to Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
with Jill Tarter, Chair of the SETI Institute
Jill Tarter, Chair of the SETI Institute, will tell us about the current status of searches for life outside of Earth. The SETI Institute is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to “explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe”. Jill has spent her life devoted to finding technological solutions to improve our chances of detecting signals from intelligent civilizations on other worlds. If you've seen the movie "Contact", based on Carl Sagan's book, the character of Ellie Arroway (played by Jodie Foster) is based largely on Jill Tarter.
Join us for a fascinating evening with the world's foremost expert on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence!
Sponsored by the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy and the Sheraton Waikiki
